This Ontario artist uses photography to ‘feel more within’ Portuguese culture than he ever has

“I started out to include some of the Portuguese common artwork practices into my get the job done, in which I started out to genuinely kind of hook up back and as an alternative of on the lookout again into the previous and thinking about my family’s experience in just the society, I begun to truly hook up and make it my very own,” he reported.
Custodio, who now life in St. Catharines, Ont., started researching Portuguese tile do the job and flower carpets and utilised his medium of images to seize the essence of Portuguese tradition as a result of his lens.
“I was also looking at some of these tactics that were not accomplished genuinely for artwork making,” Custodio mentioned.

In 2004, he took a excursion back again to the Azores, a region in Portugal, to understand about the histories and legal guidelines of the region.
