Kennedy Center to celebrate ’50 Years of Broadway’

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Accomplishing Arts announces a star-studded lineup of Broadway and Kennedy Centre favorites coming jointly for two performances only on February 11 and 12, 2022, in the Kennedy Heart Opera Residence to celebrate 50 Years of Broadway at the Kennedy Middle.
Hosted by Tony Award winner James Monroe Iglehart (Aladdin, Hamilton, Freestyle Really like Supreme), this at the time-in-a-lifetime concert function pays homage to the legacy of Broadway musicals at the Kennedy Middle, together with a particular tribute to the late Stephen Sondheim. The celebration will star Tony Award winner Stephanie J. Block (The Cher Exhibit, Falsettos), Alfie Boe (Les Misérables, Locating Neverland), Sierra Boggess (Faculty of Rock, The Small Mermaid), Tony Award winner Gavin Creel (Hello there, Dolly!, She Enjoys Me), Grammy Award winner Christopher Jackson (Hamilton, In the Heights), Tony Award winner LaChanze (Issues in Brain, The Colour Purple), Tony Award winner Beth Leavel (The Promenade, The Drowsy Chaperone), Tony Award nominee Norm Lewis (Porgy and Bess, The Kennedy Center’s The Tunes Gentleman), Grammy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Andrew Rannells (Falsettos, The E-book of Mormon), Tony Award winner Frances Ruffelle (Les Misérables), several Grammy and Tony Award nominee Vanessa Williams (Into the Woods, Sondheim on Sondheim, “A Time to Sing” at the Kennedy Centre), and Tony Award nominee Tony Yazbeck (Flying About Sunset, On the Town). More casting will be announced at a later date.

Featuring an on-phase 40-piece Kennedy Middle Opera Household Orchestra, the concert will be directed by Marc Bruni (Gorgeous, the Kennedy Center’s The Audio Gentleman, and How to Succeed…) with musical course by Emmy Award winner Rob Berman (Vibrant Star, Finnian’s Rainbow), choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter (School of Rock, Catastrophe!), set and projection style and design by Paul Tate DePoo III (the Kennedy Center’s The Who’s Tommy, The Songs Man, Footloose), lights design and style by Cory Pattak (the Kennedy Center’s The Tunes Male, Upcoming to Usual, Minimal Store of Horrors), audio design by Dan Moses Schreier (Flying About Sunset, Problems in Head) and costume style and design by Alejo Vietti (Holiday break Inn, Beautiful).
