Danceworks Efficiency and Milwaukee Opera Theatre co-producing “Rusalka”

GABBY: LOOKING AHEAD, ON ARTS AVENUE, TWO LOCAL COMPANIES ARE COMING TOGETHER FOR A SPECIAL PERFORMANCE IN TWO WEEKS. DANCEWORKS ARTISTIC DIRECTOR AND UPPER THEATERS ARTISTIC DIRECTOR JILL ANNA JOIN US NOW LIVE. AS WELL AS CHRISTAL WAGNER. THINKING FOR BOTH COMING IN. I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE PRODUCTION FIRST BUT BEFORE WE GET THERE, TELL ME ABOUT THE COLLABORATION. IT IS THE SEVENTH. >> WE HAVE BEEN COLLABORATING EVERY OTHER YEAR FOR 14 YEARS. IT IS SUCH A SPECIAL COLLABORATION. CRYSTAL HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN EVERY SINGLE ONE. GABBY: THAT IS AMAZING. COMING ABOUT THIS ONE. IT HAS TO BE SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL, RIGHT? >> ONE OF THE THINGS I LOVE THE MOST ABOUT THIS ONE IS HOW INTEGRATED THE DANCE AND SINGING IS. WE HAVE DONE PROJECTS AROUND EIGHT BEFORE. BUT AS I AM WATCHING THIS TAKE SHAPE, THE DANCERS AND SINGERS ARE REALLY COEQUAL AND TELLING A STORY, A FAIRYTALE AND THAT IS THE FOR — FIRST TIME WE HAVE DONE SOMETHING LIKE THAT. >> IT IS REALLY COOL TO WATCH. WE STARTED PREPARING THE DANCE ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF AGO. TO LAYER IN THE DANCING AND SINGING TOGETHER AFTER THE CHOREOGRAPHY INSIDE MY HEAD INTO WATCH IT PLAY OUT TOGETHER, NOT AT THE SEATING IS LAYERED ON TOP, IT IS GOOD TOGETHER. >> WE HAVE ALSO DONE THINGS IN A REALLY LARGE SCALE IN THE PAST. CULTURE GARDENS, THE PARKING LOT OF DANCE WORKS DURING THE PANDEMIC. SO BIG, WIDE OPEN SPACES. THE OTHER THING THAT IS DIFFERENT AS WE ARE INSIDE THE TINY DANCE WORKS STUDIO SO YOU ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE DANCERS AND SINGERS. GABBY: BERRY AND SAMET. I THINK THAT WILL MAKE IT EVEN MORE SPECIAL FOR FOLKS TO COME OUT. DANCING AND SINGING AT THE SAME TIME AS QUITE A SKILL TO TRULY HAVE. >> IT AS. ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS TO SEE IS THE WAY THEY AMPLIFY IT OTHERS WORK. THE WAY THE SINGERS LOOK AT THE DANCERS LIKE HOW DO YOU DO THAT? AND THE DANCERS LOOK INTO THE SINGERS LIKE I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW. >> THAT IS ONE OF THE MOST SPECIAL THINGS ABOUT COLLABORATING. GABBY: WHERE CAN FOLKS FIND THE TICKETS TO GET MORE INFORMATION? THREE NIGHTS ONLY. >> THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY BUT SIX PERFORMANCES TOTAL. WE CAN GO TO DANCE WORKSKE.ORG. WE HAVE A BUTTON AT THE TOP OF OUR PAGE AND PEOPLE CAN FIND TICKETS. THERE ARE STILL A FEW SEATS LEFT. GABBY: THINK YOU BOTH FOR COMING IN TODAY. I AM REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS. IT SEEMS LIKE IT WILL BE A GREAT
