Upcoming dance reveals characteristic artists from Dallas to South Africa

Over the Bridge Arts has been presenting new work by rising native artists since 2017. Utilizing a variety-show format, the Oak Cliff-based group options dance, music, theater, efficiency artwork, poetry and visible artwork underneath catchy banners like Burning Lady and Messy Love.

Its newest providing is First Draft Dance at Sammons Heart for the Arts, co-presented by Beckles Dancing Firm.

The invoice contains new items by Ally DesJardins of 6 o’clock Dance Theatre, Madeleine Boyce of Avant Chamber Ballet, Danielle Georgiou of the Danielle Georgiou Dance Group, Loris Beckles, Cami Holman, Sarah Matzke, Tina Mullone and Over the Bridge Arts founder Lori Sundeen Soderbergh in her return to the stage.

In the meantime, Dallas presenter of nationwide and worldwide touring acts, TITAS/Dance Unbound, is bringing South African choreographer Gregory Maqoma’s exploration of grief, Cion: Requiem of Ravel’s Boléro, to Moody Efficiency Corridor.

The work for his troupe, Vuyani Dance Theatre, is impressed by each the French composer’s well-known musical piece and the fictional character Toloki from South African creator Zakes Mda’s novel Cion. Set in a graveyard, it’s realized by 4 a cappella singers within the Isicathamiya type and 9 dancers.

Maqoma has referred to as it a lament meant to awaken the viewers and create a connection to departed souls.
